“Katie Etheridge is a fascinating artist and performer. She has a rare ability to engage intimately with the contexts of her work and then produce responses of subtlety and complexity.” Phil Smith (Wrights and Sites)
I work across live and mediated art forms to make solo and collaborative performances and interventions that investigate the interrelationships between people and places, and artists and audiences. My work often places the audience member at the centre of the experience, shifting them from passive spectator to active participant.
Recent collaborations include Signs and Wonders (2012-2013) with Phil Smith and Simon Persighetti, commissioned for the 400th Anniversary of the Lancashire Witch Trials, and exploring the question ‘What is a sign?’ through trade and conversation in city streets, marketplaces, and down country tracks. An exhibition of the project can currently be seen at Live at LICA [Lancaster Institute of Contemporary Arts].
My work has been commissioned and selected by partners including Compass Festival (2011), National Review of Live Art (2002,2005,2006), Inbetween Time (2010), Battersea Arts Centre (2008,2011) New Work Network (2008), The National Trust (2010), Fresh (2006,2007), Beaford Arts (2010), and Rules and Regs (2005).
