Mac Dunlop Biography: Mac’s early abstractions in live art during the 1980’s have developed from ‘presence’ to ‘absence’. His ‘disembodied voice’ is still heard in the “Unspoken Words” radio series he wrote and produced – broadcast on London’s Resonance FM – from 2009 to 2011.
Mac co-founded the Bristol art collectives, ‘Semi-Ambulant’ (1980’s) and ‘Here nor There’ (1990’s) where he transitioned from analogue to digital film production. He continues to collaborate with fellow artist Annie Lovejoy on ‘Caravanserai’ – the ongoing residency, and performance platform project based in Cornwall. Mac also continues to work with VS1 Productions, the UK based Sign Language Film Production company co-founded in 2003, with David Ellington and Sam Dore.
More recently his work has explored satire and caricature more intensively, experimenting with multi-compositional production, overlaying digital classisism with an analogue romanticism.
Review: “Dunlop differs from other performance poets in that as often as not the words and sentiments he utters come to us from a character or persona he has adopted. From this point of view his poems often ask to be read as dramatic monologues rather than personal lyrics.” Edward Picot, Editor, The Hyperliterature Exchange – http://hyperex.co.uk/reviewmacdunlop.php
